The primary consideration is- the age and value of the car. I’m assuming import tax will be applied, then their is VAT to add to this. You may have to change your headlights for LHD, expensive. Then you are going to require a conformity report prior to getting the vehicle ITVd (MOT). Then you can commence the process of re- registering the car. At every stage you will pay a fee. And expect this to take weeks and weeks.

There are companies out there that will do this for you but they don’t do it at mate rates.

Nathan, I think it is simply not worth bringing your UK car over here. - even if you manage to import it under the premise of it being part of your household belongings, and therefor tax free, this has to be done within 1 month to be eligible;and given the time it takes for even a good Gestoria to do this, you will be looking at an excess of €1000 minimum.  Sell it before you come, and drive more safely on the correct side of the road.

We brought our UK car with us three years ago and importantly before Brexit. We had it matriculated by Decklids in Mazarron. It was a pretty new car and we still have it, however, if we were doing it again, I would definitely have sold and bought a LHD car here. IMHO, bringing a RHD car now is not worth it and will be very expensive.

Just my 2 cents worth and I hope it helps.

I agree that it is not now worth bringing your UK vehicle over to Spain.

It used to be worth it before Brexit but the costs now outweigh the advantages.

Cost us 750 euros to change to spanish plates. You also need to get lights changed over

I believe you now have to pay import duty. No idea on the price for this.  We fortunately did ours just before Brexit

It cost me just under 2000 Euro to import my Freelander2 and I picked up a pair of LHD headlamps in the UK before leaving for around £350.

Sitting high up in a 4x4 makes driving a lot easier than bringing a normal car and I have no problems with seeing the road etc. The only problem is the wife has to deal with the ticket barriers and so on.

No regrets from myside because if you intend buying a used car, there is a lot of rubbish out here and we brought our vehicle over that has not let us down and has a full LR service history. Even after paying all costs, it still worked out cheaper than buying the same model over here.

As regards Brexit and duty, because of the ongoing situation with Ireland/borders, I think you'll find there is still a loophole if you re-register your car in Belfast first, but you need to check.
