We have just bought a small villa for holidays & to let to family/friends and I had reservations about Camposol and really wanted to live in a "proper" Spanish town but my wife wanted somewhere she would feel at home and people spoke English. Plus it was her inheritance we used to buy so she won!

We completed last week and went over on Saturday for the first time but arrived and had to wait 1.5 hours for the solicitor with the keys only to to find we had no water or electricity (the previous owner had been cut-off without anyone's knowledge). But the response from the neighbours was just incredible. First someone saw us waiting in the car outside in 32c heat and came to ask if we were OK. When we explained we were waiting for the keys he invited us into his house for cold drinks and to use the loo. He also warned us he thought the electric had been disconnected and called another neighbour from across the road. When the solicitor arrived we checked and found it was true - no water or electric. At this point the neighbours swung into action! First they showed us where the water meters were and we found our one was switched off so we rectified that. Then they got together and strung an extension lead from our next door neighbours into our patio and a three way adapter so we had power. Then another neighbour who had heard we had no water or electric came over and said we needed to get a cup of tea and invited us over - this evolved and ended up being a wine and beer drink party :-)

So there is my experience and it was truly remarkable how everyone was so helpful and friendly - even though they had never met us before. So for all the negative reports you read, here is a very positive experience :-)

This information has been very helpful, thank you. My main worry is buying a property that may have had problems with flooding in the past. The estate agents are not very forthcoming with information on the subject.

Have to say that I used Mercers as the estate agents and they were not only very helpful but used English speaking contacts at the solicitors etc. who basically did everything for us including switching over the amenities

I am sure if you spoke to them they could give some indication as to the best/worst areas for flooding

Yes I agree - they were very open with us about the reports on the internet etc.... One point they did make which I thought was valid is if you remember the floods in the UK in 2015 you never hear people say "I wouldn't live in Cumbria/West Yorkshire/Thames Valley - have you seen the reports on the internet about the flooding they had in 2015!".

Exactly. We see more and more flooding issues in the UK these days but not everyone wants to move away do they

Weather is becoming more extreme globally so sometimes problems are going to be experienced regardless of where you live in the world
