I have recently had installed a solar PV power system.

This uses a "virtual" battery to store excess power in the "cloud".

Iberdrola have acknowledged this installation & have offered to either get a credit against my bills which means changing to their "Solar Plan", or to use the accumulated excess power stored in the cloud at times when the sun is not shining - maybe autumn & winter times when the daylight hours are reduced.

I am somewhat confused since they don`t actually say how much in €/kWh they will credit off my bills with the Solar Plan.

Can anyone with solar PV`s installed, advise which maybe the best option to go for.

Presently my solar system is generally generating more power than consumption so there are frequent times the PV`s are generating enough power for current consumption plus feeding the cloud also.

Any advise - greatly appreciated.

The main principle of the Solar Plan is that they charge you a higher rate for electricity consumed from the grid in the daytime (9am -7pm), but you shouldn't be consuming much from the grid, as you'll be using the electricity that your panels are generating. You are then charged a lower rate from 7pm-9am, when you are more likely to be consuming from the grid. They then pay an offset fee for spare electricity that you export to the grid. I have solar panels and Iberdrola is my supplier - roughly speaking, I pay €0.15 per kWh for electricity purchased from the grid and I receive €0.05 per kWh for the spare electricity that I export to the grid. Clearly you save more from self-consumption, so, for example, I use my washing machine, dishwasher, pool pump etc in the day, when I'm generating.

If you visit the first link below, you will find a wide variety of plans, so you can choose which best suits you. The second link also contains FAQs about the Solar Plan. (They can't quote a fixed rate for the electricity exported to the grid, as it varies).

Hope this helps!

I don't think I can advise you but I am completely off grid ..no electric supply ..have solar panels and inverter and 12 back up storage batteries ...the generator is a back up if required ...I haven't used it since October...I use an app called victron connect with is driven by a shunt attached to the batteries which tells you everything about usage.. kw yield float..absorption..charge ..kW usage time remaining.....its a big house and running a big pool too..the real dream is no electric bills at all ...everything I read on here tells me people are often unclear with iberdrola about just what happens/ what they can expect..I swapped electric water heater also for gas bottle driven hot water ' combi' ..it saves an awful lot on electricity power drainage and its instant hot water with more pressure ...I don't have a solar water heater on the roof..also have a wind turbine attached..maybe the app could help understand better if it is applicable? Or something similar ?
