The EHIC will only cover you for emergency treatment, and only while you are a visitor. If you are coming to live here you will need private health cover for the first year as part of getting residencia. Note that too many misled souls in the UK voted to leave the EU, so there is no guarantee that the European Health Insurance Card will be valid, and until when.

Read this, issued today by the wonderful British Government, which has done so much for us ex-pats!

Basically if there is "no deal" you can forget your EHIC card and you will need full private health insurance with no "copagos" (excesses) if you want residenzia....will cost you together about €250 to €300.

Agree with the EHIC part but the rest is only your opinion!

My opinion is that if anyone has left their country (UK) for another, they should shut up about what goes on in the UK and accept what goes on in your 'new' country of residence! Nothing in this world is forever and decisions made on things at the time can change at some point in the future for better or worse, that's life I'm afraid! As I said, just my opinion.

The decision to move to another country was made in part because of the set up between the UK and the rest of the EU/EEC.

Because of the total incompetence of UK politicians to negotiate important changes in the EU they lied, obfuscated and misrepresented what the affects would be, mostly because they did not know or even care.

It is like belonging to a golf club and wanting to have the course to themselves at the weekend - not going to happen so they leave!

Why you left the UK is your business not mine and I don't want to get into a political discussion here, but all politicians lie! I think it must be in their contract of employment, but it's a bit naive to think it's just British politicians. Just look at the Spanish for example. It seems to me that the whole world has become disillusioned judging by a lot of recent election results.The advantage of being in Spain is not being bombarded with spin by the media (unless you go looking for it), unfortunately we are in Britain 24/7. I find it refreshing to escape that when I'm in Spain.

It will be very interesting to see how the EU continues without our financial input.
