Can't make my mind up to buy mobile home or brick built home.

We have a static caravan in the uk as a uk base. Whilst it is very comfy, warm enough in winter with central heating, insulation is not good and you would cook in a Spanish summer. The minimum standard should be the BS for residential use. Even a €80000 6-berth only takes a team of workers 30 minutes to assemble onto the chassis, so you can imagine that the fit of doors, windows and guttering can be poor.

In our experience Spanish buildings vary from mediocre to poor, but they would probably hold their value better than a caravan.

And the annual ground rates / service fees would be very helpful for Eric, and closeness to shops without a car?

First thing to establish is your budget there's many bargain apartments around Santiago  La  Ribera  I know of people picking up a 1 bed for 30.000 euro and you have all the amenities in the town including buses to alicante murcia city and Cartagena

O sorry for got to put that down. Sadly that has gone down now to under 50.000 euro.That's the budget yes i know not much of a budget.

Eric. dont get downhearted you will find somewhere for about 40,000 and have 10,000 for fees etc

Hi i have looked in the Santiago area on site's and they seem to be around 60./70.ooo euro or more. Do you know better site's that i should look on .Eric

My personal preference would be for bricks and mortar if affordable - that's me thinking about potential resale value in the future. Whatever your budget though - do be sure to set aside 13% to cover fees - They may not quite be that much but if you factor that in and they're less, you've got yourself a nice little bonus.

I'd suggest having a look on the large online property websites such as  A Place in the Sun and Rightmove (Spain). That's what we did and if possible, draw up a shortlist, contact one of the estate agents and get them to take you around to view them all in one go (we did that too).

There are also some groups on FB with properties listed at under 50k Euros and some of those look charming.

there are plenty of flats in alicante for €50000 and less, but as sugested earlier try rightmove and you can play around with price and areas
