Good Day

My wife and i are purchasing a home in El Algar.  If all goes as planned we'll close on or around 8 May 2020.  We will use the home as a holiday home for a couple of years and then permanently move to El Algar.

We have been working with Casa Manuel and they've been great so far.  Any words of wisdom that we should be aware of regarding living in El Algar?  We are both looking at Jim's Guide and Jan's Useful Tips for Living in El Algar.

I'm sure once we get through more of the closing process, i'll have more questions.  Oh by the way, we are from the US.  Any other US expats in El Algar?

Thanks you

Rick Jones

Happy to see someone from the US in the forum. Hubby and I both from the US as well but not familiar with El Algar. We bought in San Pedro del Pinatar and loving it here. We come and go to the US to spend time with the family during some holidays. If you have any problems in the future obtaining residency, we can help because it's very hard for non EU folks like us. We wanted to extend our stay for more than 3 months at a time and the only option was applying for the residency. We both are retirees and was looking for quality life at an affordable price and this is it for us. Love it! Lay back, affordable fresh food, affordable good wine. Awesome public transportation with discounts for senior citizens like us. Great doctors and Healthcare FACILITIES, we get to walk everywhere anytime of the day... etc etc... Quality life is ALIVE in Spain.

Best wishes to you both. Any questions you can PM me.

Hi Rick. Congratulations to you and your wife.  We moved to El Algar this January and really love being here.  We are from the UK and spend time in both countries. We are not residents here yet but hope to be.
It’s a very friendly Spanish village and there’s a lot of places to visit. Great shopping centres nearby too.

Hi Rick. We bought our villa in El Algar in December 2016. We’re doing the same as you, using it as a holiday home for a couple of years before moving out permanently. We do get over to Spain fairly frequently though. The village is friendly, and has everything you need, but we tend to head to Cartagena and Los Alcázares for the bigger shops. Tim

Hi Rick, hope your move goes as smoothly as ours. We bought our property 2 yrs ago now. I can tell you that it was the best thing we have ever done. You are central to a lot of interesting places from architecture to cycling. You are close enough to all the retail you need but also close to some of the most beautiful beaches you could ever ask for. The village itself is very friendly and has a great market on a Friday, the other great thing is the Spanish people don't need any excuse to have a celebration there are plenty. There are a lot of great restaurants in the area as well. My wife and I at presant use our property as a holiday home but will soon be spending a lot more time here. My nam is Donny and my wife is Lorraine we are Scottish, if you need someone for a get together please don't hesitate.
