Hi, we are hoping to buy a 2nd home in this area and would like any recommendations of small towns or villages with amenities so we can focus our property search area.

Does Fortuna have a good range of shopping facilities including builders merchants or B and Q type stores ?

Is there a railway network in the area? What are local bus services like?

What are living expenses like for example eating out, grocery shopping?

What are the nearest or best local beaches and are they easy to get to ?

Thank you for any information anyone can provide.

Jill

Hi Jill,

Fortuna is a small town which is a pleasure to live near. Shopping facilities are pretty good with many supermarkets. As far as DIY type stores there is Avelinos on the high street which is an old fashioned general hardware store. Most building materials can be got just outside the town at ideco although the main DIY store is Leroy Merlin (French B&Q) within the massive Neuva Condemina which is about 20 minutes drive away.

The rail network is in the process of being upgraded as the stations are in Murcia or a much smaller station at Archena. The bus service is very limited. Living expenses are remarkably low and the restaurants are in the main good, depending on your taste.

Nearest beach would be Santiago de la Ribera which is about 40 minutes away - the paella there is fabulous. If they finished the RM1 from San Javier it would about half that time.

Hope this helps.

Regards Steve
