It's our first time here and we've been here one week.  There is an awful fumes/sewer smell here, particularly in the mornings.  Does anyone know what it is please?  Does everyone smell it or is it only in certain parts of La Manga Club.

Our villa looks directly over the Mar Menor and I've read there are problems with farming and sewage - is this causing the smell?

Farmers use two things to fertilise the land and promote crop growth, animal manure or chemicals. Murcia is a large farming area growing vegetables, salad and fruit, there are also abundant pig farms so why buy chemicals.

Where in La Manga Club do you overlook the Mar Menor? Intensive farming area all around this area and slurry edp the pig variety is widely used st certain times of the year.

The farmers may put fertilisers on overnight.  If this only happens in the morning I suggests this may be the cause.  However, the Mar Menor is in decline (loads of info online) and sometimes the build up of algae can smell.  Some areas suffer more than others.

As a regular visitor to the La Manga Resort and just got back to UK last Tuesday, I did get a smell away from the Club on a couple of occasions, where the agricultural fields are, whilst driving  to Los Belones. Having said that, have never smelt anything within in the resort having been going there for 24 years several times a year

The wind may have been in an unfavourable direction.

I stayed in La Manga for 6 months ending March 2020. I too experienced the bad smells so was keen to learn more as the smell made me feel unwell on occasion. I also noticed yellow powder collecting outside. At any rate, my thoughts are that this smell is from the petrol refinery just along the coast. It’s unlikely to be fertiliser etc as the smell is particular to this resort.
