Hi we have just moved into our apartment in Lo Pagan and our oven and hob are like brand new.

As the apartment has been empty for some time the oven when switched on trips its fuse above 40 degrees can you advise if this can be repaired

We had the same problem with ours. If the oven is not used for a certain amount of time then moisture builds up in the electric connection in the oven and shorts out. As a quick solution take a hair dryer and dry the oven connection before switching it on. Then use as normal

Run it for an hour or so at say 160C and it should dry out. If not it may be that your potencia contract is set too low (was anything else on at the same time?) or that the circuit breaker for that part of the house is too small.

Always bear in mind that your electricity supply may need upgrading - don't use too many appliances at the same time.

On our resort, Terrazas de la Torre, many people who have purchased "new" apartments from the bank have the same issue. It's damp that gradually gets into the ceramic of the element which results in a tiny bit of electricity leaking to earth. When this happens the Earth Leakage breaker in your consumer unit trips. There's two ways used to fix it. First try running it at its lowest temperature for a few hours, then step it up a bit, leave it another hour then should be ok. Second method requires you to remove the earth connection from the oven, then run it at a medium heat. Remember to reconnect the earth when finished as it's there for safety reasons.

Hope that helps.
