What's wrong with wanting to visit English pubs, meet English people etc`?  Just because you are in Spain doesn't mean you have to leave everything behind if you don' wish to.  Maybe this person is just in Spain for the weather and not interested in anything else - to each his own, live and let live etc.

Frank, you don't have to either apologise or explain your circumstances to someone as ignorant as this loathsome individual.  I am sorry you are losing your eyesight.  I was in Alicante last weekend as it happens and there are plenty of English/Irish there.  Not there long enough to check out the bars etc. but expect there would be with the numbers of ex pats I saw there.  Good luck with the move.

Got an op soon which stands a reasonable chance of halting the the process. I’m mindful about taking the pressure off myself driving though.
