Yes, many thanks for responding.  I have completed the FCR form and have a hard copy of my vaccination tests. I am more concerned regarding the tests required for my return as there seems to be some confusion as to whether it should be a PCR or Antigen test.

PCR test 'recommended' by the UK government but antigen test acceptable.

At this moment in time.

Many thanks Roland.  Do you have to show proof that you will take a further test on returning to the UK?

I believe that you have to show proof of purchase of your day 2 test.

I am sure somebody will be along to correct me if my information is wrong.

Thanks once again Roland.  There seems to be some ambiguity as to whether the test should be PCR or Antigen following a recent Government directive.

Hi, for clarity, there is absolutely no ambiguity.

UK government recommends that on return to UK from Spain, travellers should take a PCR test. This is principally because that type of test allows closer scrutiny of the sample, particularly the potential emergence of new variants or mutations of virus. This test is approximately fourfold the price of the antigen test. Please be aware that the cheaper alternative antigen test will 100% allow your safe re-entry to UK. My parents returned at the weekend using the cheap antigen test, taken and certificated with ease at Isla Plana pharmacy for just 30€. Having just checked the necessary governmental site, I can confirm that the cheaper antigen test remains completely acceptable. My advice, check before you travel as recommendations or guidance can become legal requirements…it is a very fluid situation. The next travel update is 26 August, but changes can be made ad hoc.

Note also. Alongside the above, those returning to UK will need proof of a booked day 2 test. Once you have booked your day 2 test (from Spain), you will be given a reference number. This will then be added to the Passenger Locator Form. There is a box provided for this very purpose. The cheapest day 2 test I found was with Randox. Use code FLYRYANAIR and you will receive a discounted rate of £43.

I should add, that I’ve assumed double vaccination in my advice immediately above (as per my parents). If you return to UK from Spain and have not had both jabs, you will also require a day 8 test.

Good luck. It is like the Wild West out there! Please don’t hesitate to contact me for help.

Thanks Paul for putting it so clear and distinct.  We have decided to take the plunge and booked our trip for the end of August, expecting of course for further tinkering with the rules to be applied.  My only query is with the Passenger locator form is that the same as the FCS form which I have completed on line.

Hi, my advice previously concerns your return to UK from Spain specifically. I must have got the wrong end of the stick!?! The FCS you refer to is filled in by UK travellers for entry to Spain. If you and fellow travellers have had both jabs, then proof of that via the NHS app or paper copy will suffice. Entry for double jabbed travellers to Spain from UK is very straightforward. No testing is required prior to travel. On return, please refer to earlier post!

However, if anyone in your party has not had both jabs, then there is an extra layer of complication for your outward trip I’m afraid. As myself, family/friends visiting me over here in Spain are all double jabbed, my first hand knowledge of what you need is scant, so I’d prefer not to advise!

Please also be aware that by the time of your departure, as you allude to, things may well have changed again. The next guidance on travel comes 26 August.
