If you paid by credit card contact your bank and lodge a dispute (you may be able to do this online). Your bank will raise a dispute with them and not charge interest until it’s resolved. You just send them the info and they investigate/refund. Saves all the stress. In my experience the car hire companies don’t respond and my money has been credited back to my account.

Disgraceful how Do You Spain operate, it’s only after paying for Car hire that you learn this company is a broker, free cancellation is a joke, I had that but was told I had to give 48 hours notice, so it’s not free cancellation, the appropriate authorities do need   to intervene especially with COVID plans not of our making was forced upon us and Do You Spain flick of responsibility to the car company , wash their hands of the problem. Horrible stressful experience with absolute no redress

I think it’s quite obvious they are a broker when they advertise prices from over 20 different hire companies. The original poster has stated they usually have free cancellation but didn’t this time as the booking was only 7 weeks away. 7 weeks seems like a long time to me at the moment. You do have to look at the terms and conditions on these sites.  It’s not rocket science when they state the following

Cancellation policy:

This is a special offer and therefore non-refundable. It is not possible to cancel or modify this booking. No refund will be given if you do not collect the vehicle.

Most of the companies who offer free cancellation state you have to cancel within 24 or 48 hours prior to collection.

I’m all for consumer rights but you need to read what you are paying for when you book. Part of the reason doyouspain offer such good prices is because they know some people will cancel. The ones that don”t are effectively being subsidised by the ones that do

Many thanks for the comments in relation to our car hire problem, we have used Do You Spain many time ( mostly with cancellation option ) but this time we were thinking not needed as we were not expecting our flight to be moved ( we had only booked the car just before the flight was cancelled !)

Credit card company and Easyjet not interested but the 2 most frustrating issues are -

1) We only wish to pick the car up one day later ( 19 hours ) - no rationale explanation why this should not be possible

2) The lack of any response from both the car hire company and from Do You Spain - really poor customer service.
