Has anyone receiving a UK state pension used the S1 form when applying for a NVL.

There seems to be differing answers.

Some say private health insurance needs to be taken out ,some say the S1 form was sufficient.

It seems crazy that Private Health needs taking out (expensive ) then the application could be turned down.

I emailed the Consulate and the reply was that the S1 form(from UK in Newcastle) was sufficient. I will of course contact them again to make sure whoever responded gave the correct info)

Otherwise it's a chicken and egg situation if the S1 won't be accepted because you need the NLV to register it in Spain.

Whilst I haven't done so myself, as I haven't reached state retirement age, the S1 is permitted as an alternative to private healthcare for an NLV.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I have chatted on here before with you. I've just realised the Spanish Consulate will only accept my S1 form if it has been pre registered with Spanish INSS. I had a quick look at the process and naturally all of the forms are in Spanish. Ideally I need to go to someone who speaks fluent Spanish and sit down with them and do my online forms or failing that sit down with a Spanish solicitor in my area. I just wondered if anyone has gone through the pre registering process as it's relatively new.

For my NLV, I used a Spanish solicitor, who I would definitely recommend, her details are shown below - if you do contact her, please mention that she was recommended by Richard Tasker.

All our dealings were via phone, email or Zoom, so please don't be concerned that she's based in Barcelona. She successfully completed everything I needed, including arranging the appointments with the Police, etc when I got to Spain, to get my TIE- and, more recently, my TIE renewal.

I think my situation might be different as the online forms for S1 registration need to be done by the individual applying and photo uploaded while doing the application.

Hello, Gerry.

You can found out what you need to know here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/healthcare-in-spain-including-the-balearic-and-canary-island

It was not a complicated process when I applied for mine.

Regards, Steve.

Thanks for the reply. I've got the S1 form from Newcastle, but the problem I'm having now is that it has to be pre registered in Spain. I've looked at how to do it, all of the forms are in Spanish naturally, but the application has to be done in real time, and a photo taken in that process. I've tried getting a Spanish solicitor or translator to assist me but so far,no luck. And Google translator doesn't work on all.

Non Lucrative Visa. It's the visa you need if you are retired and want to move to live in Spain, post Brexit.
