Thinking of moving from Malaga to Los Nietos or surrounding area. Is there local transportation to get around the towns? Buses? Taxis? I see there's a train from Los Nietos to Cartagena. Is it operational? What are schedules like? Looking for a quiet place to rent, but must have proper internet and accessibility as I don't have a car for now. Any information you provide, links, websites, will be greatly appreciated 🙂

The train from Los Nietos to Cartagena is hourly (from 7 am to 8 pm)

That all for public transport.

Better public transport connections are in Los Alcazares.......

Hi, the trains run 2 or 3 times per hour from Los Nietos to Cartagena via a host of inland villages and a dedicated stop for the hospital.  It takes less than 30 minutes to Cartagena and is €2.70 return.

The Mar Menor was flooded by the storms of 2019 which caused a drop in oxygen due to level of farming chemicals washing into it but there has been a public outcry over this and the EU have stepped in to sort out ecological issues and a lot of illegal farms have had their water supplies shut off so that things improve.  A new mayor was voted in 2 years ago and things are noticeably better since with obvious investment around the beachfront.  The beach is cleaned more regularly and all the damage from the Gota Fria storm has been repaired.

There are taxis available and if you can cycle (or even balance an e-bike) the area is as flat as a pancake.  The Vuelta a Espana came through village last year, about 5 metres from our front gate! I’ve cycled to Cartagena, Los Alcazeres and almost to the end of La Manga.

I would say that it’s a quiet village though so if you’re looking for hustle and bustle you won’t find that here until the summer holidays.

The area has its own micro climate so doesn’t get as cold in the winter or as hot in the summer as other areas of Spain.

Thank you for this useful information regarding the trains in los neitos. I will be visiting in December. Is there also a bus service in los neitos?

Another question is whether anyone knows of restaurants that might be open on Christmas day in the area?
