Hi
I have a share in a boat in LU marina, so usually (in non-Covid times) I am there regularly.
LU is very quiet, even in peak season. Facilities are limited - a couple of minimarkets, a few restaurants (two good Spanish restaurants, and several British/internationals), a few cafes/bars, a church, a small school (I think juniors), a weekly market.
The beach can get a bit weedy at times.
LU was hit badly by the September 2019 Gota Fria (a once in 100 year flood), so check flood records before choosing a house. There is a housing estate on El Carmoli (a steep hill) that, naturally, avoided the Gota Fria problems, but services are few and far between up there. Los Nietos (the next town down the Mar Menor) is similar to LU, but it has a tram connection to La Union - a good town - and to Cartagena.
You need transport if you live in LU.
The Gota Fria caused significant pollution of the Mar Menor, but it has been declared safe for swimming again.
I like LU, but it is too far off the beaten track for me.
