Thanks Jorge1306. I have dabbled a bit into the history but there's so much to learn - and that of course depends on where you get your information from and which side you would have supported.

The facts are indisputable.....the army tried to overthrow a democratically elected government...Franco carpet bombed innocent people in Guernica with hitlers planes ...picasso was painting for fun..have a look under the motorways at the dead bodied...Read Orwell..hemingway and the thousands of British people who came to fight...its not a sit on the fence read history I am afraid ...

It is quite clear that the ordinary folk of Spain have been cheated and brutally suppressed for centuries by the various Governments, wealthy land owners, the church and the army. I though it was bad here, but much, much worse in Spain.

Possibly true..... but the advantage that Spain has now, is that it has thrown off the yoke of the oppressor, whilst the UK keeps voting it back into power!

I think it is beyond doubt that the common Spanish people were repressed to an horrific extent.

But I totally agree with your last comment. I can't believe there are still those from humble backgrounds who believe every word printed in the Daily Mail.

Cartagena is a fascinating place and so full of history. We've just returned after spending a few days there and visited as many of the ancient sites as we could. From 227 BC when it was taken over by the Carthaginians and then moving onto the Roman occupation, the history of the city has been co...

...ntinuous throughout the past 2,000+ years. Did you visit the Teatro Romano (the old Roman Amphitheatre) and the adjoining open-air museums that are stacked full of the remnants of the Roman occupation of the city? There have also been discoveries of Neanderthal remains in the area. For me, ancient history is more interesting than modern history but that the area is full of historic importance and interest, is of no doubt. Enjoy your reading.

Cartagena is fascinating, tiled walkways full of small shops, restaurants and bars. Look up and see the wonderful architecture and balconies. Visit the harbour area to the left is the container base and fishing docks, in front where cruise liners dock, to the right the .Spanish naval base and submarine pens. Take a sail round the harbour, it was 8 euros but if is 2-3 years ago since I went round but for a hours trip well worth the money. There is a recording giving the full history but we were too busy spotting mountain and cliff fortifications, gen emplacements etc. at the bottom of the fiord where it meets the Med round the corner to the right us a small village, round the corner left, hidden out of sight is a large oil refinery, you can see ships out at sea waiting to unload. Get your timing right and you might be lucky and see the Orca whales. The marine salvage boat, painted bright orange, is often moored inthe harbour, as my partner says it will cost over a £1m just to move. Local museums include history of submarines, the man who invented/designed the modern submarine came from Cartxagena. There is also a museum dedicated to clipper ships. Disregard what you spend in the shops, restaurants and bars, everything is free apart from the boat trip. Well worth a visit.

I know everything is underlined how do I switch it off?

Thank you, I found that account very helpful & informative. Sorry I can't help with the underlining thing. These things have a mind of their own don't they?
