Hi, Thinking of buying a property in San Cayetano, we do not know the area at all. Could anyone tell me about the area. Is there everything you need in the village? What is the local transport like? Any info would be very much appreciated.

  • We bought a holiday home in the village in 2018 and love it there.  It is quiet (which we like) but in easy reach of the coast and other busier areas plus shopping centres, supermarkets etc.  There are a mix of nationalities and everyone is very friendly.  You will always find someone to chat to in the local bars.  When we bought there wasn't any public transport but I believe there may be a bus that comes through there now.  There is a train station at Balsicas which is about a five minute drive away.  I would say you do need a car but having said that we definitely don't use ours every day when we are over.  The Spar in San Cayetano has recently been extended and provides everything you need.  There is a bank, chemist, bakery, hardware store and doctors as well as a few bars (most of which do some sort of food) and a brilliant restaurant.
  • Hope this helps.  All the very best.

You can't buy without visiting or knowing the area or renting for 3 months...I know it fairly well having been in nearby Balsicas for 5 years ...

As Fiesta Lady said it has all the amenities you might need on a day to day basis but you really need a car to live here. Nearest beach is a 10 min drive. We do have a new bus route which goes to san pedro del pinatar and roldan. Seems to be twice a day in each direction at the minute. Its a good location for exploring more inland and also to get to the coast. We have a few bars and a good restaurant but it is quiet. There is a municipal swimming pool that opens in July and August and padel courts open year round.

Very international community but still a spanish village at heart. I guess is depends what you are looking for.

Why purchase inland  when you purchase by the sea or within walking distance of the mar menor. I don't think prices are too different by the coast and its not too busy outside of Jul n August.  Santiago de la ribera or Lo Pagan  plenty of bargains to be had.
