We bank with Sabadell and they charge us €30 per quarter. We will consider changing at the end of our first year, but otherwise we are happy with them.

Hi Debbie

I am still  with La Caxia an have no problems with them what soever I mainly use there ATM and internet banking where I use  a money transfer company and the transfer is normally there on the same day.

Have had no dealings with Sabadell so cannot comment.

Enjoy Spain.

Regards

Ed

We've just been charged €61 ( €30.50 each) by La Caixa as a non residents fee ( we spend only six months a year here) which they say is a government tax! Anyone else paying this?

Hi when you opened your account did you tell the manager you are not used to paying fees as in the uk they pay you to bank with them??

I believe in an earlier post I said that La Caxia would not charge you if you insisted  I bank with them and pay no fees what so ever, also many years ago I banked with Cam Bank and was not a resident and again said to them I would not pay fees and again had free banking.

It is down to the branch director (manager) weather they charge you or not.

Do not be afraid to ask negotiate and be firm if you wish to bank with them.

Ed

Can any one advise the best Bank in San Pedro del Pinatar I need to open a Bank account soon due to the purchase of an apartment.

                     Thanks Andy Williams.

I bank with Sabadell and pay no fees. It is an expansion account. To avoid paying  bank charges I have to pay in €700 each month. This can bee the same €700... what I mean is you can pay it in, withdraw it, and pay it in again. This is a loop hole. I have a friend who transfers the same €700 between 2 accounts each month. With this account you get a debit and credit card free of charge as well as commission free withdrawals from most cash point. I wouldn't say they are the best bank... but I think that they all much of a muchness

Hi Ed,

Yes I did and there was no charge for first year - last year! Probably think I won't notice?

Yes, I am with Sabadell and was in the process of changing to an expansion account to avoid charges, then rather foolishly revealed I would be transferring back and forth etc.. and was told they would close the account if I did!

I will let the dust settle and re-apply later.
