Hi,

I wondered if anyone could advise me on whether basura (rubbish collection charge) is payable seperately for residents of San Pedro or is it included in IBI?

The reason I ask is that whilst we were in the UK my wife and I missed a "Correos Certificado Signature Needed" delivery to our Spanish mail box. I have been to the Correos and they think the type of delivery we missed is usually regarding unpaid taxes.

I bought my property in June 2018 and my solicitor paid 2018 IBI pro rata on my behalf earlier this year so I know IBI is up to date. My non resident tax is calculated and ready to pay before the end of 2019 therefore I think this is up to date.

I can only think that basura is payable seperately in San Pedro and this is the tax that I owe. My Solicitor was expensive and hopeless therefore I told him I would sort out my own taxes in future (maybe a mistake)!

Does anyone know if basura is payable as a seperate tax and, if so, do I need to go into the town hall to get my bill?

Thanks for your help.

Basura has nothing to do with the IBI tax.

It is usually charged on your water bill

I could be wrong of course

Because it is linked to the water bill and this is a variable amount depending on usage it cannot be bundled with the IBI.
