Hello,

I just moved into a property in San Pedro, and would like to know if I have to pay local council taxes? How is it done - do they automatically bill me or do I need to do some sort of registration myself? Any help and advice is appreciated.

Thanks Michael

If you have bought the property your lawyer or gestor will have sorted out your payment of IBI, usually not due the first year as the vendors will be responsible.

If you are renting then it will depend upon your rental agreement terms, could be included in the rental or not.

I purchased my property. So after first year, do they automatically contact me and send me a bill?

Whoever dealt with the legal side would be able to tell you. They should have set up a direct debit but.....talk to them.

Wierdly in Spain although the tax applies for the calendar year it is taken quite late, and can be in one or two payments. Car tax is the same, applies all year but due late summer/autumn.
