my husband and i are hoping to go out to the area for 4 months in March 2022, we have our house car etc, but we want to take our treasured large labrador, does anyone have any recommendations, advice or warnings for me please?,

Hello, we always take our 2 cherished pooches to our place in Mazarron. We usually sail from Portsmouth to Bilbao or Santander…either will suffice. We book early to get a pet cabin and the ferry is very nice and relaxed, with a pleasant meal and drink in the bar.The crossing is about 26 hours. We then split our journey into 2 legs, stopping at a lovely dog friendly hotel just north of Madrid. That leg is 4 hours from the port. The next day we make our way to Mazarron, about 5 hours. Traffic is usually very civilised, perhaps a busy spot or two around Madrid.
Brittany Ferries do Rosslare to Bilbao, which is obviously more suitable for you. I must add, that on your crossing, the ferry has limited dog friendly cabins, so book early! Just looked on their site however and there is availability throughout March!
Just ask if you want any other information and bon voyage!

We've just done Ireland to Spain with our dog. We're British.

We are in Northern Ireland so it's as handy for us to go from Ireland but really want to do whichever has the best feedback from everyone else experience

Don't forget it's a maximum of 90 days in 180 for any stay for UK.

Hi, you will find pet cabins more expensive but I can offer you a Brittany Ferries code to make your fares cheaper to offset this, it's S0267G, surname Savage (0 is zero) , input as friends code to get 10%off fare prices(not cabin though). We have been doing ferry visits past 4years and love the journey, and we don't have a pet but like to take things over.

Hi we have just moved to Spain 2 weeks ago with our 8yr old dog.we flew him with fly pets. They were amazing. Can't recommend them enough. Dog arrived happy and in very good condition. Not sure if they fly from ireland but worth a try. Good luck
