Hi there, I am thinking of putting in a new air conditioning unit in my apartment to cover  large sitting room and 2 bedrooms . Does anyone have information on initial costs of installation and running costs in August  for 2 weeks for instance. Also, is there a company that rents out units for short stays ?

I would appreciate any feedback.

Denise.

You need a proper installation to get best efficiency. The sort of portable things that you wheel in and plug in work poorly but cost a lot to run. You will probably need at least two external pumps, with one running the two bedroom units, and you will have cooling and heating for whenever you are there.

The only cheap option would be fans, floor standing or ceiling but they are a long way from air conditioning!

Hi

We are doing the same thing to our apartment (two bed and one living room) and had a quote for the work. We have pre-installation in ours - you didn't mention whether you had. So for installation of a unit in each bedroom and one in the living area we are looking at 2000 - 2500 euros in our case. I have put a link in for the company which I had been referred to as reputable

Hi

I forgot to mention that these are inverter units which do both heating and cooling - all the best!

Hi Denise, as a lone woman, I was in the same position as you last year. I went to Leroy Merlin; received advice and and recommendations in English  from the sales people - with no pressure to buy, and chose  a twin inverter to do 2 bedrooms (hot /cold) and a larger single unit for the Livingroom area. It was installed by their contractor very professionally with no problems, Both the work and units were guarranteed. Could have had deferred term payment but opted for  a Leroy Merlin club card and received a small discount. In my opinion portable units don't work well, need venting to the outside. (through an open window) DOH!? and are an expensive waste of money. The total cost I paid was  just under €2,000.

Hello Christine, very helpful post. Which Leroy Merlin was so supportive?

Is it for cooling and heating or only for cooling. Have you meanwhile an overview about the power costs in summer,

I am facing the exact same challenge.

Kindest Regards

Joachim

Costs to run are obviously dependent on how much usage - in the awful sweat box that was last summer we were running ours virtually 24/7, but sensibly - set the bedroom at around 28C and don't try to live in a fridge!

Monthly power costs were similar to when heating in a bad winter - around 100 a month.
