Hello everyone! I’m considering buying a property in Santiago de la Ribera, and wondered if anybody had any knowledge of how at-risk the area is from flooding? I know a few years back the area was affected but wasn’t sure if it was just along the coastline. If anybody had any direct experience that’s would be great. I’m looking at properties around the Plaza San Blas zone.

We have friends in Calle San Marcelo.

The September 2019 flood did not get to them.

Here is a map where you can zoom in:

Areas which could be flooded:

Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura (Zonas Inundables)

Hi Darren,

our house is in the area of La Plaza Pizzeria and yes the surrounding roads and some properties were flooded. Thankfully ours is raised slightly up from the footpath which meant we did not get flooded, except for the rain water that found it’s way under the back door which is 3 steps up.

If possible buy a property which is at least a couple of steps higher than the footpath and if we’re unfortunate enough to get flooded again it will help.

Have you only looked in the San Blas area?

Anni

That’s really helpful Anni, thanks! I had only just started looking and noticed some new build properties in the San Blas area. I’ve always liked the Santiago de la Ribera beach so wanted to be close by, but safe from any potential extreme weather. I’ll keep looking and take what you said into account.
