Hi all

In the next 18 months I intend to retire. My partner and are looking to buy a property and move full time to the Mucia region. We would like information about the Santiago area and if places are still open in winter to eat drink and entertain us. Thank you in advance.

We are visiting the area next May with a view to our purchase a house/villa.

With kind regards

Andrew

Quiet in winter and very busy in the summer but plenty to do all year...if you dont know the area maybe better to rent first so you experience the different seasons...lots of places around the Mar Menor offering a slightly different selection of bars, restaurants and social activities.

Hi Andy,

Stgo de la Ribera can be quiet in winter..some of the 'tourist' restaurants along the promenade close for the winter season and the bars and restaurants open are mainly Spanish business' frequented by the Spainish but they will speak enough English for you to get by. The Dog and Duck is the only English bar in the town. The Trebol sports bar is frequented by ex-pats. Don't expect to find a selection of bars offering entertainment such as tribute bands and karaoke....Ribera isn't a 'resort' in that way.

In neighbouring San Javier (30 mins walk or short bus journey, expect to wait for the bus) is 'Time Out' they have a website where you will see their extensive list of entertainment. I'd say there's a higher population of English people living in neighbouring Lo Pagan and Los Alcazares so therefore other entertainment options.

In Ribera you will find Spanish language classes, conversation groups, dancing yoga and Zumba classes, and someone on here is looking for Bowls shoes so there's bowling in the vicinity......Facebook will have lots of information....there is also the local fiestas dotted throughout the year.

Good luck.....
