Legal requirements to board dogs

Hi ..Could someone please advise me the rules of boarding dogs in your own home e g 4 or more . Do you have to be legally registered somewhere and have insurance in place. I am asking as I know of people doing this and wondered about the consequences if I started the same process. Many thanks
