Hi, my husband and I will be moving to Spain soon. We are 37 and 41 year old.  We have both worked in hospitality most of our lives. Can anyone tell me what's the employment market like in Sucina area? Will we be able to find a job without fluent Spanish ? We are happy to change career.

Are you from the UK? If so, I assume that you have checked that you can get a visa to work in Spain?

If you are wanting to work for a company, then you will need a working visa, which your employer will need to apply for on your behalf. These can take months to be approved and in certain cases the employer will have to prove that they could not find a native Spaniard for the job and, therefore, had to offer you the job.

If you want to be self-employed, then you need to apply for an autonomo visa, which will require you to provide a business plan, proof that you can support yourself financially, proof of skills & experience and any qualifications required for the job, evidence of any expected contracts for work.

Most of the above doesn't apply if you are an EU citizen, of course.

Unemployment in Spain is very high and there are a lot less jobs available than previously in the hospitality sector, as it still hasn't recovered from the impact of Covid. Wages in Spain are also only about 2/3 of wages in the UK; and it would be very hard to get a job without speaking Spanish.

Sucina is a small village in a mainly agricultural area, 20 miles from Murcia City and 10 miles from the Mar Menor. There are several golf resorts nearby.

Hope this helps...
