Hi All
I am just back from Ribera and Met an Irish bank manager who said that Town hall and utility suppliers do Not Have to accept Foreign IBANS from outside Spain
In my case I was trying to open a free online Bank account with N26 which is a German bank.
The person that said it is illegal for them to refuse does not seem to be correct and I would like to know if anybody from within the European Union like me in Ireland can throw any light on this ???
Incidently I failed to Complete my application With N26 as It got very complicated
Any good advice would be very much appreciated as I may have to go with the Spanish Bank Sabadell who charge rip off rates per month.
Kind regards
Michael

If you read back through this thread you will find a lot of very useful information on opening a Banco Cajamar Wefferent account. It's free, online and app based. It comes with a free debit card. Obviously it has a Spanish IBAN which is accepted by all the organisations you are likely to deal with in Spain. You will need a Spanish mobile number to open it. Going with Sabadell is the worst alternative.

The Irish bank manager is totally wrong & should not be giving out incorrect information.
It is against the law.

Hi Martyn,
Good info but I do think the Spanish mobile info is incorrect, I’ve opened an account without a Spanish mobile 🤔

Hi Trev,
I too, have a wise account, I use this for transferring monies to my Cajamar wefferrent online account for bills (I just thought best have a fee free Spainish account would be best for Spainish bills) I also have a Revolut & I use wise/Revoult for spending when in Spain, at weekends I use wise cause Revolut charge at weekends 😳😩 a useful tip 👍……… Anyone who may have better options 🤔 I’m always looking 👀 listening 👂 & learning for all round best practice financially 😝.

Thanks but I live in Ireland and Don't want a Spanish mobile number or a Spanish bank account unless it's free like N26
I read on the Internet last night that it is now illegal utilities. Company's to refuse Direct debits and payments from non Spanish banks. For the past 7 years
UK unfortunately are not in the EU but Ireland where I live and are active members of the European Union.
Regards
Michael
