This morning (Monday 6th April) all roads leading to Aguilas are blockaded off, with no access to Carrefour, Aldi or Mercadona from the direction of Los Collados.  No police or guarda were present to explain the reason / duration.  Can anyone shed any light on this?  We have checked Aguilas and Murcia news pages online but nothing there.

Article in murciatoday about it. Lots of road closures and police checks all around in attempt to keep lockdown breaking holiday home owners arriving for the weekend through Easter.

They seem to have adopted a more rational attitude to where you can shop - previously it was unclear, with some places saying simply do not go (an undefined) too far, to others saying you must use only the shop nearest you, even if this was inadequate or unsafe. Closing off town boundaries keeps people within the town so unless you have chosen to live in a place with no supermarkets you can choose to use the one you want. I am glad of the clarification, certainly.

I believe the problem was not people travelling a long way within a region but crossing between districts with very different rates of infection, potentially spreading Covid19.

I’ve just received the following response from the Tourist Office explaining the blockade:

The only access currently opened by road to reach the town center is through the round square of the main entrance of the town when you arrive from Lorca, the rest of the accesses will be closed following the Security protocols due to COVID-19.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Yours sincerely,
