It all depends if you are living there full time or just using it as a holiday home.

Iberdrola's Night & Day tariff would be good for full time occupation but not for a holiday home.

Be careful when doing your sums with the various tariffs because the standing charges can be very high. It also depends on your contracted supply 3kw ? 5kw ? etc

We have a 3kw supply & even if we do not use any electric at all our bill is around 14 euro per month.

Hi Roland

I've just been reading your comments regarding electricity supply and wondered whether you knew of the best tarriff to be on for a holiday home that is only going to occupied for 1-2 months per year.

We have recently purchased a new property and the contracted supply has been set at 5kw but the first bills we are receiving from Iberdrola seem very high even for months when we are not in the property using any electricity because of the standing charges.

Any help or advice you could provide would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Kind regards

Ryan

As you can see from my previous post the monthly standing charges etc for a 3.3kw supply are around 14 euro per month.

I did look at upgrading to a 5kw supply but if I remember the standing charges including IVA came to roughly .75 cents per day so I did not upgrade.

So on 31 days you are looking at around 23 euros without using any electricity at all !!

You may be on a special tariff I don't know.

Best thing to do is set up an online account then you can see whats going on.

The website is in english or you can use google translate.

Hi Roland

Thanks for your help and advice - much appreciated.

I guess we could look into downgrading to a 3.3kw supply(if this possible) although someone has mentioned to me you have to then be careful not to avoid using too many appliances at once otherwise there may be problems with the electrics tripping.

I'll look into things further - thanks again for your message.

Kind regards

Ryan

Hi again everyone. Prior to our arrival to Aguilas in July, we are trying to ascertain which company provides the most cost effective electricity. It is our understanding that electricity is somewhat more expensive in Spain. Look forward to any advice with regard to who to use or who to stay away...

A 3.3kw supply can be a problem because you can only use up to 3.3kw then the electric trips out & you have to reset it ( & all your clocks etc )

So for example a 1kw water heater plus a 1.5kw heater plus a 2kw kettle & off it goes.

I was using electric heaters through the winter & my supply was constantly tripping off with over usage.

I installed a pellet stove so I no longer have that problem.

Didn’t think there was any choice! It’s Iberdrola only

Just switched to a night plan as air con is only used at night - my standing charge is almost €30 pmth without any electricity usage

Very good of you to respond. Your choice appears to be the same as many others who have given advice.
