Unless our flight is cancelled we will be flying out in July for 7 weeks. We always pay our Bill's as it seems the right thing to do but also because we leave our fridges and pool pump on

These costs were factored into our budget when buying the property in the first place

Many thanks to those who have responded to my query. I notice a few of you are planning on visiting your places in Spain over the next few months. A word of warning - if you are travelling to a country not on the UK Green list you should be absolutely certain you will be covered by your travel insurance. From what I can gather you won't be covered because it would be deemed a non-essential trip. This means if you trip and injure yourself and require hospital treatment you may very well need to foot the bill yourself. The same will apply to other "events" normally covered by your policy.

Hope this helps. Stay safe

Uk residents now have the latest GHIC to cover emergency use paid for by NHS so covered by that. Sure no repatriation like a good travel insurance and I don't advocate not buying a policy that gives cover for all eventualities but the GHIC will pay for emergency attention.

Hi, I know it's difficult, but I say go for it even as Spain is Amber. We got back to our property a couple of weeks ago after 7 months and thank goodness we did. The only real difference between Green and Amber is one more PCR test and quarantine and, although I very much understand there is mor...

...e cost involved and returning UK restrction, on balance it was worth it for us, even though we both work in the UK.  I do not think at all the UK government will move anywhere popular to Green soon as they have, I feel, a completly hidden agenda and this will go on for years. Life is too short and if you are double vaccinated and are Covid respectful to everyone around you, I'd urge you to book that flight! 🤞

I’m going over to my place in a fortnight and I 100% completely agree with the comments in the last reply. The uk government will continue for sometime to move the goal posts as they definitely have a hidden agenda. I would get over to your place ASAP

Agreed 100%. Because the economy has been hit hard, they are doing everything possible to get you to stay in the UK and spend your money locally, not abroad. It will go on and on until at least summer is past. If you do need to show "essential travel", just get a letter from your agent/keyholder to say X has happened and your attendance is required to resolve a water/ leak / electricity / subsidence problem.

What a good idea rgz3435 - it's worth considering. This post seems to have stirred up the "hidden agenda" theory which I'm not disagreeing with for a minute. Most governments have hidden agendas and I'd be interested to hear what this agenda is from those who suggested it.

As for travel insurance - it's not just cover if you're ill (I already have my GHIC) it's for anything else a travel insurance policy normally covers. These insurers will stoop to any level to avoid paying so just be careful is all I'm saying.

Stay safe

We have taken out insurance with Staysuee and they not only provide cover for non essential visits to Amber countries, data premium of course, but they also give a 10% discount for the 2 and 8 day tests when you return to the UK

Overall a cost we thought worth paying

Fully agree, always check the small print in the policy, you will be gob smacked how they get out of each claim, can you imagine how much they would have to pay out for claims, no way will they do that.

Be very carefull.
