You will find all the information you require for applying for your NLVs here:-

https://www.exteriores.gob.es/es/Paginas/Page-not-found.aspx?requestUrl=http...

...s://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados/LOSANGELES/en/InformacionParaExtranjeros/Pages/Residence-Visa.aspx.
It depends where you are resident in UK as to which embassy you need to apply to.  London, Manchester or Edinburgh. We used a Spanish law firm in Barcelona to guide us through all our application process - it’s expensive but I think in the long run worth it, the lawyer you are assigned deals solely with immigration and knows the common mistakes/pitfalls which will be picked up and result in your application either being sent back to you or turned down.  They are able to spot any mistakes or anomalies in your form filling/form submission and advise you before you submit your forms.  For instance your Drs signature needs to be signed in ‘wet ink’ (fountain pen or equivalent) not biro!  We didn’t know this and ended up having to request a second certificate.  They also collate all the copies of your documentation and present them accordingly so all you need to do is submit a folder as an attachment to your e-mail to the embassy.  They also provide a standard proforma for the body text of your e-mail.  However if you want to go it alone this is the email address we submitted our completed applications to:-

[email protected]

Good luck!

Sorry just realised that link will take you to an error page!  You need

https://www.exteriores.gob.es/Embajadas/londres/en/Paginas/index.aspx

that should take you to the consulates website.

Hope this helps!

Hello Sara,

Your reply was very informative and helpful. We will be going through the same ordeal later this year and are reluctant to go it alone. We intend to use a legal firm to guide us through and arrange things and to offer advice re tax etc. You describe this as being expensive, while I understand that lawyers never come cheap could I be rude and ask you for a ball park figure for the coat of your legal advice and assistance so that we can budget accordingly? Also, would you recommend your own law firm?

Many thanks for any guidance you might have.

Regards,

James

I used Raquel Moreno at BeGlobal Attorneys, based in Barcelona. Her fee for both my partner & I was approx. €1,000 and that also included all translations (and sworn translations, where required).

We were very pleased with the service provided and we would certainly recommend her.

Her contact details are:

If you do contact her, please say that Richard Tasker recommended her.

Hi James and Richard

Sorry not to have replied sooner James, reading Richard’s reply that sounds to be a far superior service to what we had!
We used Lexidy Law, also based in Barcelona and they were considerably more expensive than the lady Richard has recommended (in fact almost twice as much) plus we had to pay extra for the sworn translations and getting our marriage certificates, our ACRO forms and our Drs certificates apostilled.  There was also a muddle with the translations which caused quite a considerable delay which was extremely irritating.  Basically we paid Lexidy for the translations and someone in their accounts department forgot to pay the translators so our paperwork  was put on hold until the translators received payment.  It wasn’t until we questioned Lexidy about why the translations were taking so long that the mistake came to our/their attention.  However other than that their service has been good, they were very prompt replying to any questions we had and very quick supplying paperwork/forms etc. when required but we do rather feel it could have been done more cost effectively and more quickly with another company.  In hindsight we wish that we had received recommendations of other companies before starting out with them but as we were still in the middle of the pandemic and everything had to be done via zoom/e-mail they seemed to be our best option when we were starting out with very little knowledge - hence why I find this forum so great!  Also in hindsight I am very glad we did use a legal company rather than going it alone, I think you are far more likely to get a quick and successful outcome using a professional service.  However that remains to be seen, please keep your fingers and toes crossed for us, we attend the consulate for our interviews in London on Friday 27th!

Hope this helps - Sara

Hi Sara,

Thanks very much for your very helpful reply.

It's all very bureaucratic isn't it? Sorry to learn about the delays and errors in your own case, and very odd that this whole process has to meticulous yet the inner workings of the solicitors office re payment of fees for their translators is allowed to go awry!

All the best with your application and I hope everything goes smoothly from here on in.

Best wishes,

James

Hi Mandy

Your ACRO certificate must be in date and have been apostilled by the F&CO the day you go for interview (please see my earlier reply on the forum about getting your appt once you’ve been issued with your password, because of the strike at the moment they are only giving out appointments for interview on Friday mornings, we had to wait four weeks for ours which is now next Friday 27th May).  The ACRO certificate is actually valid for six months in UK but beware, the Spanish Government only recognise it for three months so you need to obtain it, apostille it, and get it translated all within three months of your appointment. Hope this makes sense.  You may have read my above comments to James, our lawyers made a boo boo and the translations were held up so we had to do the whole process twice!

Good luck - Sara
