Why do some Dog Owners leave their dogs out at night to bark and howl the entire night.

I am told that dogs are a family member.  If thats correct - would you leave Nanny, Grandad or Auntie outside all night??  Especially when rain is forecast.  Where's the love and care in that.  People don't leave their dogs outside all night in the UK, so why do it here?  Seems cruel.

Pity there isn't a Dog Patrol.

So annoying!!! The dogs by us are never walked and are stuck in the garden day and night annoying all the surrounding neighbours. It is totally inconsiderate to others and unfair to the dogs left without ant attention. Please don't tell me they are animal lovers....

'Dogs bark for a multitude of reasons. They may be barking because of separation anxiety, to establish and maintain territory, due to illness or injury, as a form of alarm, from frustration or seeking attention, as a greeting or as part of a social situation.'

The one negative of life in Spain is all the bloody barking dogs!

Every Spaniard (and some ex-pats) seem to have at least one mad dog that barks endlessly, some people seem able to switch off but to others its like a dripping tap and close to torture.

I don't think there is a solution but if anyone has one I would love to hear it.

Is it possible to report it as a nuisance to the Policia Local? Has anyone ever done this?

I think you could probably issue a Denuncia but I don't know the in's & out's of doing that.

Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately a Denuncia has (I believe) to be done with the Guardia Civil and the Guardia in Puerto de Mazarron are most unfriendly and  unhelpful. On the other hand, the Policia Local in Mazarron are extremely helpful and friendly.

I guess I will have to try the Policia Local first!

It’s not the mad dogs it’s the mad/bad owners.

Dogs are fantastic if treated correctly.

If people can’t look after them correctly why have them in the first place.

They bark for a reason, the owners should be made responsible.

Some Brits might think dogs are part of the family but most dogs to the Spanish live outside and, in many cases, are used as deterrents against intruders. Sorry but it is a fact of life here and some people have difficulty accepting thus.

Ginger, I think you are right and its just part of the scenery here but it's still bloody annoying and God knows how the Spanish put up with it when they have to go to work in the morning!

We had the same problem before we eventually moved. We had 11 dogs within 100 yards, and the ones which weren't walked were the ones which barked. Not surprising. It was a nightmare.

There are local bylaws in Mazarron, which limit noise. It used to be from 11pm till 8am. It would be well worth going past the local police. I'm pretty sure it's also the case that you can't leave a dog outside barking all the time especially during these hours.

People say to speak to the owners. Believe me, they don't care. Your best bet is to have a word with the local police.
