We had the same problem before we eventually moved. We had 11 dogs within 100 yards, and the ones which weren't walked were the ones which barked. Not surprising. It was a nightmare.

There are local bylaws in Mazarron, which limit noise. It used to be from 11pm till 8am. It would be well worth going past the local police. I'm pretty sure it's also the case that you can't leave a dog outside barking all the time especially during these hours....

...

People say to speak to the owners. Believe me, they don't care. Your best bet is to have a word with the local police.

Thanks Floki, that is very useful information about the local by-laws in Mazarron. I will try the Policia Local.

And you are right about the owners not caring. I spoke to the guy next door and asked if he could please move the kennel from right in the corner next to our gate because his dog was frightening visitors who came to our gate. He refused and just said it was his house and he could do whatever he wants.

To some extent I have trained the dog (a Doberman) myself. It no longer barks at *us* when we come in and out because it now knows it will be squirted with a hose if it does, but it still goes bananas when people walk up the road. or people it does not know come to our gate.

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but in my opinion, this is why we purchased on a golf complex, there are coexistence rules, one being barking dogs.

The extra we pay for security and.maintenance  is negligible for quality of life.

Ask how many estate agents live on a golf complex, it’s quite high, they must know something.

The rules even cover noisy neighbours too

I know people who live on a golf resort and they have problems too.  For example, although there is security there is a huge problem with breakins.

For me, although golf resorts are pretty, I prefer a decent sized garden and I don't want to live in an apartment.

Nowhere is perfect.

Exu,

On mazarron.es you'll find this:

Ordenanza reguladora de la tenencia y protección de los animales
It mentions not allowing dogs to bother people, not leaving dogs outside to bark during the night.
Also, being a Doberman it may be classified as a dangerous dog, so the police may well be interested in that too.

Yes I know nowhere is perfect hence not everyones cup of tea!

Gosh! Huge amount of break ins

If that’s the case then they have no chance of barking dogs, the community  of owners need to get together at the next agm or sooner and voice their concerns and vote out the security company or make radical changes, golf complexes don’t only have apartments they do have decent sized villas with decent sized gardens.

Some situations don’t suit others, but getting back to barking dogs, this can be controlled on golf complexes a little if not a lot better so can breakins.

Again just my opinion

Are there any golf resorts that ban dogs altogether?

They would certainly get my business next time I move!

Interesting point about estate agents, ours lived on Rhoda Golf and loved it, the Villas were however I lot more expensive than I could afford, maybe next time.

It’s not the mad dogs it’s the mad/bad owners.

Dogs are fantastic if treated correctly.

If people can’t look after them correctly why have them in the first place.

They bark for a reason, the owners should be made responsible.

Completely agree with you it's not the dog's fault it's the owner's fault. There are no bad dogs there are just bad owners!

That's as maybe, but it's the dog that barks not the owner!

I used to like dogs but to be honest I now view them as just a nuisance with the barking problem and crap on the pavement.

My next move will be to a community that doesn't allow dogs.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Fantastic post! I no longer give to charities in the UK when I found out what the Chief Executives earn, seriously check it out.

It's a legal scam a lot of the time which is a shame as most charities aims are very worthwhile.

Agree about the bad dogs issue as well although to be honest a yapping little spaniel is probably as annoying as a rottweiler!

Re nuisance dog barking.  People put up with this in Spain because they don't want to rock the boat with their neighbours because afterwards they still have to live near them. Also to make a denuncia with the police it has to be done totally in written Spanish, and spoken in the same. For the majority of English this entails paying an interpreter for the priviledge of complaining. The outcome is not always a good one for the complainant. I have been told by a serving officer of the police  that they now do not attend complaints about dogs, but I know they do attend for noise complaints about humans. I have experience. Take comfort in the fact that dogs do not outlive humans !
