Hi All

Hope you're managing to stay safe and well. I have a holiday home near Mazarron and use Bankia for my bills.  Earlier this year they jacked their monthly fees up from €6 to €14 as well as other charges. They've just merged with Caixa and it looks like the fees will go up yet again so I'm looking for an alternative bank.

I only use it to pay water, electric and council bills. I don't use a card and deposit euros cash whenever I'm out there so it doesn't get used much and I strongly object to paying so much. I know banking in Spain is different to the UK but.....

So, can anyone recommend a Spanish Bank with lowish fees? Does anyone use one of the UK banks like Starling etc to pay their Spanish bills? If so, which, and how easy/difficult is it to set up.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Search for banking at the top of this page Banking / Costa Calida.

All the info you need will come up.

Thanks Roland, I'll have a look.

As mentioned numerous times before on this site, check out the banking forum. TransferWise is who I use, completely free and you can pay your utility bills by direct debit. https://transferwise.com/

Thanks Michael19. I've used them to top up my Spanish bank account but until now had no idea they did this also. Will consider.

Bear in mind that some of the Spanish utilities will insist that you have to use a bank with a Spanish IBAN code.

You most certainly don't but they will insist that you do.

So just be aware of that when you are trying to move your DD to Transferwise etc.

I use N26 online account

It gives you a Spanish IBAN number

Can add direct debits

Not monthly fees

I would read this before opening a N26 bank account.

https://www.cityam.com/german-digital-bank-n26-quits-uk-due-to-brexit/

And according to this it is not available to people in the UK.

Available for residents of Germany, USA, Ireland, Austria, Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Finland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Slovenia, Greece, Estonia, Slovakia, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway.

I could of course be wrong.
