BBVA provide free banking if you lodge 850 euros a month,  every month. The weird  thing is hou can take that 850 back out fairly quickly with no penalty and use if for tue following month etc.   I sound really knowledgeable ( I'm not) I was in BBVA last week asking the same questions and that's what  the lady explained on great detail, she was very helpful.  This was BBVA Punta Prima but I'm sure if applies nationwide.. hope this helps

I would call in and see the bank, unless  you have some odd type of account, you shouldn’t be paying to withdraw cash at a Caixa ATM with a Caixa card.

Banko Sabadell online account completely free of charges also debit and credit card. Can be opened with mobile phone in a matter of minutes providing you have information required

From the Banco Sabadell website pages about the On-Line account:

What fees apply to the Sabadell Online Account?

The Sabadell Online Account has no opening or maintenance fees, and you will be able to carry out your normal day-to-day transactions free of charge through digital channels and ATMs.

A transaction not marked as free may be subject to a fee, as explained in the pre-contractual documentation. For more information, see the Fees information document.

What information will the Bank give me to open a Sabadell Online Account?

During the online registration process, pre-contractual information is provided, which you can download and will also be sent to your e-mail address so that you can review it at your leisure. The pre-contractual information contains:

● Information document on fees.

● Information prospectus prior to entering into a Payment Services Framework Contract.

● Pre-contractual information in accordance with banking regulations.

● Schedule of Fees and Charges applicable to transfers and cheques via the account.

What additional information is there about signing up for an account?

The Bank also makes the following documentation available to you at its branches and in the 'Customer Information/Information on fees and interest' section of the Bank's website:

(i) Quarterly information on the fees and rates most commonly charged or offered for the most frequent transactions with the most common natural person customer profiles.

(ii) List of most representative services associated with a payment account.

(iii) Schedule of fees applicable to paid services.

Crucially:

€0 fees for online transfers within the EU, except for immediate ones.

SO there are fees for moving money into the account from outside the EU. And it's not totally fee free.

I use wise currency transfer company to transfer money from Stirling to euros into my Spanish bank accounts, nearly always immediate transfer and no charges from the receiving bank.

Therefore all my banking is free in Spain

Please see my previous reply. The online only account is not completely free as they state.

As with any bank account whichever country you are in  if you use a service that is not included in their free terms there would be a charge. You pointed out bank transfers? anyone that actually uses, for instance a uk bank to transfer money to a foreign bank will obviously occur charges  I don't think anyone would be so unintelligent as to carry out such transactions in this day and age

Obviously this is the purpose of asking advice from sites such as this from people that have experienced the services they are suggesting or recommending .
