We are in the health system as UK pensioners and dont pay bank charges...we run two cars, have a large heated pool and jacuzzi and still find it cheaper! ....one month council tax in UK was almost the same as whole year here!! Petrol and diesel cheaper, good wine for less than 3€ ...great 4 course menu del dia for less than 10€ ......suppose prices also depend n where you live...I know where I’d rather be....

I must agree with crissy,

Yes certain things may be slightly more expensive but tell me where in the UK can you get a pint of beer for 2 euro a bus journey to the airport for 6 euro, ITV on your car 52 euro car insurance fully comp including recovery 198 euro.

I am sure I can think of many other things, but maybe the people that think it is expensive have been living under the radar for many years and are now counting the costs?

No, not complaining eduardo, just comparing and not been under any radar, only been here just over a year. Maybe we need to shop around for cheaper utility bills and insurance. Please tell me where you can get car insurance with recovery this cheap?  P.S my last MOT in U.K. was £40.

I find Spain considerably cheaper that the UK as a UK resident that is.

Food / drink / car running costs are all cheaper.

My IBI in Spain is 151 euro per year, my council tax in the UK is £300 per month.

And of course the biggest saving of all must be the price of property!

I use Linea Direct for all my insurances the one thing I have learnt over my many years in Spain is never accept the first price or even the second if you are not happy.

You must remember that with most insurance companies in Spain if you wish to cancel the policy you have to give 2 months notice, I always ensure I do this within the time line, giving me the opportunity to obtain quotes from other companies.

Always you will receive a call asking why and my answer is always the same, "you are to expensive" then there sales pitch will start, I listen and disagree, thank them, and wait for their next call, and so on.

I actually find this fun negotiating with them.

If you want to see how much your tax bill should be try the simulator: https://www2.agenciatributaria.gob.es/wlpl/PARE-RW19/OPEN/index.zul?TACCESO=COLAB&EJER=2019

The rates for 2020 have not changed, and the conversion is 1.124 to the £.

Just a further tip, also look at the wealth tax implications, depending on your own situation, it could be eye watering.

The notice period was reduced to one month, several years ago.
