Hello all,

I have a question that bothers me: I plan on taking a cash amount of more than 10000 Euro with me from EU country to Spain. If I am correct, I need to declare this amount when entering Spain.

OF COURSE: the money is legal and I will carry with me proofs of its origin (Bank).

So, am I right that also in going through EU I need to declare in Spain?

My fear is what happens in the customs? Did anyone else did that? How does it work? Did you meet any problems in the customs?

Thanks for any info!

Yes you have to declare anything over 10,000€. https://wise.com/gb/blog/taking-cash-in-or-out-of-spain

Thank you. This was quite clear to me.

Did anyone have any experience like that? How was it working once you're at the customs? How did it go? What did you have to do?

I don't have any experience of taking over 10 000 euro in cash into Spain.

As you are quite correctly going to declare it I can see anything out of the ordinary ( which this is ) causing a problem at Customs.

You might also have problems doing anything with that vast amount of cash in Spain when you come to use it.

Actually these days it seems a very bizarre & very dangerous thing to be doing.

Can you not use a currency company to move the money for you ?

Moving euro's to euro's would actually cost you nothing with Wise.com

I do think there are substantial risks doing what you plan. There are thieves, pickpockets, muggers everywhere, and airports must be a hunting ground. You would also struggle getting insurance cover I would imagine. No business is allowed to take over €3000 in cash for a transaction, so how could you spend it if you and it did get here safely?

I totally agree.. I would not recommend bringing that amount of cash with you as transferring is quick for large amounts and the costs are very low.. I use Wise.com to transfer and I also have a Wise card which you can load up to 10,000 euro within Europe without any issues and no charges.
