You will get a debit card from Wise when you open an account but the big snag is that you will not be able to get cash from an ATM without a charge being made by the ATM operator.

All the ATM's will accept the Wise debit card but the charges will vary enormously.

Several UK bank's debit cards allow free cash withdrawals in Spain.

Depends who you bank with.

If you use Revolut there's an ATM withdrawal fee but you'll have to rack up a lot of ATM charges to come anywhere near what CaixaBank (for eg) charge to run your account. PLUS you get brilliant forex rates. No brainer.

Hi, Thanks for the reply.
We don’t use the ATM facilities to get cash , We Just want the account to be set up to pay the direct debit’s for the utilities, (water, Electricity, etc) I’m struggling to sort out my Wise account at the moment due to someone having very similar details as me but their working on a solution. Che

A good point!  It's certainly not cheap to maintain my Sabadell account currently to simply pay a few DDs and withdraw cash on a VERY occasional basis!!!  :(

Too true.

I closed my Bankia bank account a couple of years ago for the exact same reasons.

I have a Santander bank account in the UK.

As long as I use a Santander branded ATM in Spain I can withdraw cash free of fees.

Although I very rarely use cash either in the UK or in Spain.

If you want a fee free bank account in Spain look at the Cajamar Wefferent account.

Plenty of info about that account if you search for free banking at the top of this page.

We looked at CAJAMAR but we we’re informed you had to be resident. We are Non Residant.

You don't need to be a resident to open a Cajamar Wefferent account.

The only snag is you can't open the account online.

A few months ago I had an email dialog with Cajamar about opening a Wefferent account. Virtually the first thing they asked for was TIE (which I didn't have at the time)

We  didn’t know what TIE stood for. Well it’s Spanish term is Tarjeta de Identidad. Briefly it is as

follows:-

A TIE is first and foremost a form of proof of permission to reside or remain in Spain for a specific period of time. Among other information, it contains the holder's NIE, as well as other information on their status in the country.

Therefore you need this card which we interpret as a requirement of being a resident.

As we understand it,no TIE, no banking with Cajamar.

We’re still pursuing Wise for undertaking our utilities payments. HOPEFULLY,!!.

Cheers
