We rented a car through Do You Spain car hire/broker..the companys involved are called Gold car & inter rent this is the same company ..on our last two rentals we have been charged a extra €45 for the first rental and €65 for the second rental without any reason as to why..we cannot get a straight answer from Do you Spain / Gold car / inter rent ...so we inform the credit card company of this over charge and the fact that they have taken it via a card payment that we did not authorize the C.C company have said they will pay the over charging back to us with in 30 days and then claim it back from the  car rental companys...so beware this scam is well known on the Trust Pilot web site .

There about 10 thousand bad reviews about Goldcar & their dubious activities on Google.

Too late now for you

As I said Roland..my credit card company has classed the over charging as unauthorized use of my card ...they have assured me that I will get a full refund within 30 days...so I would advise anyone that has had money taken from them via a credit card to claim it back through the credit card insurance...it only takes one phone call.

So sorry for you. GoldCar, Interent and Europcar are all the same operation and are renowned for their sharp practice. The prices advertised, especially on "Do You Spain..." are a bait. Many people are caught. An employee of theirs at Southend Airport told me the staff are incentivised to look for (or create) damages after the customer has returned the vehicle. Please make sure you instruct the Credit Card company to stop the transaction as unauthorised/fraudulent.

I've hired many many cars in Spain over the year's and learned the hard way a long time ago. Many warnings (including my own) are put on forums such as this, about potential ways these companies can take money.

The OP doesn't say what terms he hired the car, but if you decline the additional insurance, all companies will block your card for anything up 1100€, and it doesn't usually show up on your statement. When I asked my CC company (Santander) if the block had been released the last time I hired from Interent, they told me it's never released! I asked why and they said the hire company can take a payment at any time for damage to the car, or fuel! Seemed strange to me as it gives the hire company more rights than the customer, but you sign those away when you collect the car.

However, the simple way to avoid this is to get your paperwork signed off and stamped when you return your car. Don't accept any excuses! Obviously this can take time so allow plenty of time when you return it, and ALWAYS take plenty of dated photos when collecting AND returning. The girl from Goldcar/Interent couldn't have been more helpful last time.

This has always worked for me but there could always be exceptions. If you do the above you have perfect evidence to show your bank, should you have a problem.
