Hi folks, just wondering if it's hard to get a 20 year old car insured in Spain as a lot of companies in Ireland won't give a quote on older cars. We will be moving later this year.

Thanks

Hi, I had no problem insuring my 20+ ! Year old Peugeot - with Linea Directa , you’ll probably only get offered 3rd party insurance though ( as I did ).

Are you bringing the car from Ireland with you? If so, remember that if this is part of your one-off permanent move to reside in Spain, you have owned the car for more than 6 months and you don't sell it in Spain within the first year of residency, then you will be exempt from Import Duty (and IVA if applicable). If you don't meet this criteria, then you will need to pay Import Duty.

You will also need to matriculate the car onto Spanish registration, pay the associated fees, pass an ITV (MOT) test, etc. within 30 days of the car arriving - and this will cost approx. €1,000.

Hope this helps!
