No probs.

Tbh I've given up.  I am so frustrated.

Just trying to communicate with consulate is a nightmare.   If anyone knows how to obtain a visa and not having to deal with the consulate I'd be grateful for your advice.

Thank you

This could be a very useful lesson in what it can be like dealing with Spanish bureaucracy. Unless you want bust a blood vessel, you must learn to relax, accept that things may take time to happen or not happen at all! You could spend some time making a serious effort to learn Spanish - I am amazed how many times I read of people planning to move here then thinking about learning when they are here.

Or not at all in many cases!

Raquel will do it all for you, if you ask.

Sure, you have to pay her fees, but, as it's such an important decision / move, I think it's worth it...

Hi we are currently applying for Nlv. you’re correct it is a pain . Infact  we were at the consulate in Manchester yesterday. I have to say the reply from Rich T was the best summary of requirements I have read.Follow his advice you won’t go wrong .  Wish I had had it.  I can only add Prepare for every thing  well in advance and  colour photo copy everything twice. The consulate will not copy a single page if you inadvertently miss it .  The girl in the Spanish consulate was so matter of fact  (she was English) Told us to provide a photo copy of passport photo only  ( we had mislaid it ) . We went to the Arndale centre and did this,  took it back to her within 15 minutes to be then told “ we need every single page  copied . Back to the Arndale centre. You will get so many variations and advice even from so called experts that will make your head hurt. But persevere and refer to Rich T . we can’t wait to get back to our Casa in Valle del Sol. Best of luck . Jim F

Thank you for asking this Jaye.

I had stopped considering a move to Spain after looking at the income required.

Has this helped then?

Remember that if you are a couple, you don't need twice as much money - you need around €37,000 (£32,000) pa per couple.

So with some savings, plus state pensions and maybe small private / company pensions, it could be achieved.

Spain is wanting people to move here who have enough money to live on, without depending on the Spanish state and the Spanish NHS (neither of which Brits will have paid into); and don't have criminal records. It's a pity the UK doesn't enforce the same requirements!

Yeah the money side sorted.

For me it's obtaining the visa, wish there was a service on the UK that does it on your behalf.

I've emailed Spanish Consulate 3 times, no answer, do I just turn up.  I am a 100 miles away from nearest Consulate.

As I stated, I used Raquel at BeGlobal Attorneys.

Although she's based in Barcelona, we had a Teams or Zoom meeting and then everything else was carried out by email, with the occasional phone call. She included all the translations, which was a significant saving for me (I found quotes from translation services to be quite high); provided templates for the medical certificates; completed and submitted all the forms; set up all the appointments, both at the consulate and then the appointments that you need when you get to Spain; etc. Plus she will also advise you if / that you are likely to be successful, before you apply (and spend the non-refundable approx. £600 visa application fee). I also think she included one free re-application free (if, for any reason, your initial application fails).

You can't just 'turn up' at the consulate - you need an appointment.

Please note that I have no financial or other relationship with Raquel, however, she was successful for me and I know other people who have also used her services as a result of my recommendation. In many areas of life, I find it best to go with a personal recommendation instead of just having to trust someone you find on the internet!

I also think that there's an advantage in using a Spaniard, as they know their way around the system.

We had problems with this. Don’t just turn up the security guards won’t let you in without an appt. In the end we used a solicitor based in Spain. They got us a joint  appt . I’m told it’s almost impossible to get them through English channels.
