Is it very hard to buy in spain since Brexit. My husband is sceptical about moving due to all the paper work and financial restraints. Appreciate any advise please

I don't think it's any harder to buy a property in Spain since Brexit, but the process to move to Spain and become a resident has become more involved.

If you view my response in the link below, you will see the process (although note that, at point 9, the value is now closer to €36,000 per couple).

NLV. Non lucrative Visa

All Spain is trying to do is to want people who move here to be able to support themselves financially, not be a drain on the health service (which they will never have paid any tax towards) and not be a criminal. It's a pity the UK didn't do the same...

Hope this helps!

I have been looking at moving to Spain but like your husband I'm sceptical, I will be receiving my state pension late this year , but have taken early retirement 5 years ago and have been receiving my private pension since then , we have savings , we have a house here in the uk , my worry is paying more tax in Spain then I do here , plus the language too, plus is it any cheaper or dearer to live over there then here in the UK ,yes being over there for the winters would be great but lots say about being there in the summer months can be hard , to many tourist and to hot too, good luck in what you deside , I’m still thinking about what’s best for us

We are always shocked at how much cheaper food is in the UK - especially the usual British diet stuff. Tax is ok, IBI (council tax) & electricity cheaper, car expenses similar (but best to buy new here and replace every 4 years IMHO).

To avoid punitive charges you must get rid of UK assets like houses, which means it is difficult should you want to move back.

It seems nowadays little to be gained apart from the weather (mostly) and a lot of downside.

Personal opinion of course but based on coming up to 20 years living here.

Thankyou that's what I thought, but it's good to hear it from somebody who lives there. Would you go back to the UK, if so just to let you know its worse here, including the weather  lol

Hi , I already own a villa on Campasol, I’m not resident. My villa is very isolated ( from shops and cafes. I lost my husband and if I come over I’m really lonely and isolated. Ideally I’d like to return to aguilas, so what I’d like to know is how easy would it be to either sell and buy nearer to the shops and cafes or try to buy another property in Aguilas ? . TIA

I've lived in Spain for more than 40 years and I wouldn't go back to live in the UK if I was dragged back in chains! Some things are more expensive here but the overall cost of living is cheaper in my opinion and for those who bother to integrate into the Spanish way of life, the Spanish lifestyle tops everything!

Thankyou. Appreciate your comment. I love the culture but my husband takes a lot of convincing

We retired at 55 having sold our house and drew down 25% of private pension so have adequate funds and don’t want the time to pass to get our state pension.

We have a 3 bed villa with pool and car and our annual costs are way less than we would be paying in Wales…there really is no comparison to energy costs, rates, car insurance & entertainment (food & drink).

We travel back to Wales on a regular basis and our credit card takes a hammering….and it rains !!!

You will not regret moving to Spain if you take the opportunity but if you have concerns why not rent for a month or so at different times of the year and see how you feel.

It’s daunting but one step at a time…there’s no rush, Spain and properties will still be here.
