May I ask: By "Full residencia" what do you mean? You do have to renew still, right? The reason I am asking is because we too are not from the UK so our situation got complicated as well due to lack of clear information. The more we asked the worst things got. We made lots of trips by bus back and forth to Murcia & Cartagena, sometimes spending nights in hotels.

To our surprise, after the first authorized Residencia we thought things would get easier by the renewal time since we had provided, starting in Spain Embassy in our country of origen (USA) all the paperwork required from us.

There's a 3 digits (? 060) ph number that is very helpful and customer service is actually very nice and helpful. If any questions call this number. It's a Government service number. The reason for the Residencia is to be able to spend more than 90 days in our home in Spain. Flying back and forth every 90 days became very expensive for us. Plus the fact that our pension gives us way more quality life in Spain more than it would in the US. Thank you.

Thank you. Hoping to get to that final phase. We're now working on 2 years then 5 yrs, I think, then permanent.

We are from Belgium and becoming residents has been very easy. We went to the Policia National (after making an appointment) in Lorca with all the required documents, and we got our little green card after 2 hours. With that card and a document from social security in Belgium we will go to Spanish social security inTotana next week, were we will get a "tarjeta sanitaria". With that card we go to Centro de Salud where a doctor will be assigned to us.

That is not the case! Your NIE is for life and for EU citizens, "residencia comunitaria con carácter permanente en España" is permanent but for non-EU citizens the TIE is renewable every 5 years. This is how it will be for British citizens once we are no longer EU citizens and will have to change our current residencias for non-EU TIE's. We will also have to renew every 5 years! And anyone not already in possession of a "residencia comunitara con carácter permanente" and either have not applied for residencia or have not yet fulfilled the minimum 5 years for it to have become permanent, will have more hoops to jump through in the future. Applicants for the TIE who have not made any previous applications at all to become a resident, will have to comply with the rules that already exist for non-EU citizens and these are very, rigorous compared to how easy it has been for us Brits up to now. I believe that it is 32,000€ per couple per year, plus private medical insurance.

Thank you. As a non EU, I know it's as you have said. It has been complicated for us but not impossible. Absolutely worth the trouble we've had so far in order to enjoy unbeatable quality life in Spain. Thank you.

It is very much worth all the hard work and relevant hassle. Enjoy your new life in Spain!
