Hi folks, finally got over to villa and found water damage to internal walls, contacted Mapfre who I took out insurance with, first they say not covered as damage was caused by the derelict property next door, there assessor said it was from all the heavy rain, but Mapfre is insisting I give them the dates off the heavy rain, I have searched online but cannot find anything about it, just a big cop out, as the villa behind has identical problems, and Mapfre also refused there claim. Told them I don’t even know when it last rained in Uk, anyone have dates off last big downpour, so I can get them to cough up for repairs, I do not think I will renew my insurance with them this year, as they are a complete shower, hopefully someone out there can help me with this urgent information as going back to Uk on 18th July. Thanks and stay safe.

Have a look on this website. You can search by area and then get all the past weather info. you need, I think:

Hope this helps!

Remember if you want to change house insurer you need to give current insurer 2 months written notice....so if insurance due up in June you have to given written notice in April.....

Yes & that's one of the problems with all insurance in Spain.

Hi! Our home owners insurance is with Sabadell Bank and let me tell you: 2  months? ago we noticed mold in one of our inside walls. A friend suggested we call our insurance because damage was more likely due to the last heavy duty rain falls. A few weeks ago Sabadell sent "professional" adjuster who said yes the problem originated from the roof weather related so we would be covered. No paper involved. Just word of mouth. He said Sabadell would call to schedule us with a roofer. We waited never received the call. So we made the call for Sabadell to tell us we aren't covered because it's "Negligence" Really??? So now we supposed to climb on top of the roof everyday to baby it?? And why the adjuster told us it was covered? Isn't the adjuster the seer of the cause and effect? Called Sabadell to demand a WRITTEN explanation. They said they would email it till today. Didn't know it takes weeks to send an email of actual documentation. Oh wait! They don't document anything! They just tell you whatever it comes to their minds! Needless to say I gave them a ZERO review but I am sure they aren't affected by reviews because of a lack of better competition! We've fixed our roof, we'll get our money back saving on cheap  fresh food & good cheap wine and other areas, the way we look at it is you lose some you gain some. Thanks for sharing because by your testimony Maphre is now out of our list as well. We will rely on Spaniards who so far have given us great recommendation of great licensed handimen.

Best wishes!!

Currently insured through Sabadell but I don't trust them so have arranged cover from UK with Intersure who's reviews on Trust Pilot are excellent.

Most rain damage was caused by the big Gota Fria event in September last year, if the original poster still needs the exact date I can find it easy enough.

We had a similar experience to both the above and we are insured with Helvetia up until this year's insurance runs out.  Water had got into our wall and brought a section of it tumbling down.  Was initially advised our claim would be accepted but then told the claim was disallowed because the leak was due to 'lack of maintenance'.  Asking around 20 to 30 friends, some of whom have lived here 30 years or more, nobody had ever made a successful claim off their buildings insurance.  They are all disallowed for various reasons.  The only successful claims were for putting right damage caused by burglars breaking in.  I shall be taking my insurance out via Peter Clarke of insurespain.com as it's good to have an agent who can go in to bat on your behalf and he saved me nearly €200 when I renewed my car insurance which was initially arranged by our solicitors during the house purchase.

Hi Jtb,

We had a downpour of rain (significant enough to cause damage if you had a leak) on 24th March this year.

David.
