We completed last week and went over on Saturday for the first time but arrived and had to wait 1.5 hours for the solicitor with the keys only to to find we had no water or electricity (the previous owner had been cut-off without anyone's knowledge). But the response from the neighbours was just incredible. First someone saw us waiting in the car outside in 32c heat and came to ask if we were OK. When we explained we were waiting for the keys he invited us into his house for cold drinks and to use the loo. He also warned us he thought the electric had been disconnected and called another neighbour from across the road. When the solicitor arrived we checked and found it was true - no water or electric. At this point the neighbours swung into action! First they showed us where the water meters were and we found our one was switched off so we rectified that. Then they got together and strung an extension lead from our next door neighbours into our patio and a three way adapter so we had power. Then another neighbour who had heard we had no water or electric came over and said we needed to get a cup of tea and invited us over - this evolved and ended up being a wine and beer drink party :-)
So there is my experience and it was truly remarkable how everyone was so helpful and friendly - even though they had never met us before. So for all the negative reports you read, here is one very positive experience :-)
Thank you so much! I thrive for positive news and this is truly positive and FUN! Thank you so much for sharing!!!

We had the same wonderful experience with our new neighbours. The lady next door even brought us a homemade cake to welcome us. People are very friendly here and I never want to leave again !
