Would there be work available for a  self employed kitchen fitter/ carpenter/ builder in Camposol?

Yes if you are only  looking to earn some pocket money to spend in the bars ... otherwise no.

That would suit us, but my son and his wife are now interested in following us to Spain when we move and he would need to earn a proper living.  I will pass on this information to him.  Thank you.

In my opinion if you are good at your job, fairly priced and reliable you stand a fair chance, biggest problem I found was getting your name out there, it can take a while and you will need money to fall back on, it is no different to moving location in UK, good luck

Thanks. He is an excellent kitchen fitter and his wife designs kitchens so I suppose it's like anything, if they feel it's worth the risk and they want  it bad enough and are willing to work hard, then they might be able to make a reasonable living in  Spain.

They should think very carefully about why they might want to move to Spain to work: if they are succesful in the UK they would be taking several steps back, with not knowing where to source materials, the language barrier, costs of healthcare, costs of setting up a business, buying a van and so on, and for what? They are unlikely to make as much money in Spain as the UK, certainly not for some years, and the thought of working in the sweltering heat here....

Self-employment here is very different to holidaying, and all that sun and the beaches will only be seen for maybe one day a week - unless they have no work, in which case there is no dole to fall back on.

A great country to retire to IMHO, not to advance anyone's lifestyle.

I think the appeal for moving to Spain for them like  so many of us, is the weather and getting out of the rat race.  I don’t think they are looking to gain financially, it’s more about having a  relaxed and less stressed life.  ( or perhaps it’s because he’ll miss his Mum too much)😀. We will move out first and they will come out for holidays, but as you pointed out working is completely different than a couple of weeks of lounging around the pool or beach all day.

Thank you for taking the time to respond, I really appreciate all the advice and comments on this forum.

The employment situation in trades like this is also greatly affected by the ' illegal' cash in hand people of which there a lots particularly on Camposol.

The legitimate registered tax paying people have a great deal of difficulty finding work.

From my limited experience I would say that the answer is yes. Many people are always looking for odd jobs to be done and we last year had our kitchen re-fitted

Not sure about the employment rules but I understand from the guy I use that you need a minimum income per month or something like 14k in the bank - but these figures would need to be verified

Don't forget that on B there is a German kitchen fitting company as well so there will be competition but must admit when we looked at them they were out of our price range for the size of kitchen we had/wanted

Think there is a lot of hard work which in the sun makes it harder but if they are prepared to work and make a go of it then I think there are opportunities out there

Agree with this post, if successful in the UK why move to another country facing many obstacles, including language and bureaucracy. Spain isa great country to retire to with a pension but not a place where earning a living is necessary. There are too many people struggling to live.
