Not true Roland, our walls at least are damned solid, had to buy an SDS drill with chisel and point just to put in a cat flap. Took hours to do. The rebar l found was the easy part to deal with.

The outer walls are really hard inner walls are not as hard. But beware of cable there are junction boxes running to power outlets & light switches. I'm a sparks so I have a good idea of where the cable runs are but I'd recommend a detector before drilling anywhere.

Hi Gloria, it's in Isla Plana village which is about 20 mins from camposol. Calle Mayor, 58_60 Isla Plana, 30868.

Take road from camposol down to Mazarron then road towards La Azohia. Pass Buena Vista social club, at nxt big roundabout ( at Repsol garage) turn right & follow road through to Isla Plana. Pepelino' is in centre of village on left side before the chemists , parking possible in front of shops. Hope this helps. Jaz

It's not a mega big shop but sells all kinds of everything for diy & household & gardening etc- they have regular brochures with latest offers- currently it is diy tools, drills etc. If it's not in stock they order for you. Speak a little English too! Have fun jaz

Have to agree with Jaz on Pepelinos - I made several visits there when we were at our house in Isla Plana a couple of weeks ago. New drill, saw hammer, etc, etc - you know, all the stuff I know I have at home but will not be able to bring out in my carry-on bag!  Great little shop with loads of DIY stuff. Parking outside too - very helpful and always busy. It is so good to find a shop like that - they have nearly all disappeared in the UK.

Internal walls  which are not load bearing are very easy to drill but the load bearing pillars are of very hard re-enforced concrete and are extremely hard to drill. In fact they shouldnt really be drilled because they support the building.

Hi,

The walls are concrete, and can be very tough, but a normal carbide drill bit, and drill on hammer mode will do the job.

If you intend to go through the walls to put in extractor fans, it can be more difficult, as you may come across a metal reinforcing bar in the concrete, and this takes some removing.

In general, drilling is not to bad.

Masonry drill bits and a hammer drill.
