It's a good idea to give the agent a call at this stage, just to let them know that you are both serious and in a position to move on a purchase if you find the right place. From my experience, initial contact by email is fine, but a phone call early on is always a good idea: for you as the buyer to find out the basic information and get a feel for how you might get on with the agent, and for the agent to get a better idea of your needs and intentions. Once that basis has been established, continued contact by email can then be quite useful, as it gives you a written reference to look back on if need be.
As Frequent Flyer said, agents do get a lot of emails from people who are not necessarily buyers, or at least not buyers yet, and there could have been a crossed wire that has led to your emails being treated with less urgency than you rightly expect. A phone call should sort that out for you!
Good luck with your purchase, and I hope you find your new home in the sun soon 🙂
