Hopefully this may be useful to you.
We live out in the country in NW Murcia. About 10 years ago we had a break in, we were only out for about 45 minutes. We have very strong rejas on our house, almost impossible to bend, but the cabrones smashed holes in the walls of our house to take out the whole reja and frame.
We immediately had an alarm system fitted but it only activates once people are actually inside the house. So we bought alarmed padlocks. They are battery operated and made by Kabrus but other makes are available. We have hung them on all our rejas, they are too heavy to be activated by wind but if anyone touches them or sets off a vibration on the reja by hitting it, they beep 3 times as a warning. If someone continues to touch the reja they set off a siren of 110 decibels which continues until they are left alone. After 30 seconds of no activity, they reset themselves to the 3 beep level, if that makes sense.
The first ones we bought needed batteries changing about every month. When we had the house extended in 2012, we bought more and the batteries of the newer ones last over 6 months. Perhaps they're not very pretty but we don't notice them after all these years. They certainly give peace of mind.
