You need to take out health care insurance which complies with the rules for your visa. Basically, this means no co-payments (the Spanish term for excesses) and the policies need to be paid for up front (i.e. not on a monthly direct debit). Many companies offer these policies and will state that they are visa compliant.
Quotes vary greatly, but will broadly vary depending on your ages and any pre-existing health conditions, or previous operations, etc. just as they do in the UK - so it's worth shopping around.
I use Sanitas (which is part of the BUPA group) and pay approx. €800 per annum (including dental cover). I'm 53 and have no pre-existing medical conditions. I've also seen DKV recommended by others on this forum.
I'm not sure, but I think that if your husband is already taking his state pension in the UK, he can apply for a form S1, which will provide free healthcare in Spain and can be used for visas, so you should check that. Obviously, you would still need a health insurance policy for yourself.
Hope this helps!
